Hibachi at Home in Palm Springs

Palm Springs is the vacation-rental party capital of California, and a private hibachi chef is the upgrade every group chat agrees on. Mid-century patios, pool decks at golden hour, and a live fire show against the San Jacinto backdrop — dinner becomes the itinerary.

We cook across the whole Coachella Valley: Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Rancho Mirage, and Indio. Evening slots keep desert heat out of the equation.

Bachelorette Weekends

The signature Palm Springs booking: pool day, golden-hour photos, then a private chef show at the rental. Nobody drives, nobody cooks.

Birthday Trip Dinners

Milestone birthdays at mid-century rentals where the teppanyaki flame is the evening's centerpiece.

Festival Season Groups

Coachella and Stagecoach houses that want one real dinner between festival days — book these dates well ahead.

Poolside Dinner Parties

The chef sets up on the deck, the pool glows, the mountains turn pink. That's the whole pitch.

Where We Cook in Palm Springs

We have set the grill up in most kinds of Palm Springs space there is. These are the three we see most.

Mid-Century Vacation Rentals

Pool, patio, mountain backdrop. Most of our desert bookings are a whole group renting a house for the weekend.

Poolside Decks

The grill goes on the hard deck well clear of the water, the pool lights come on, and the mountains turn pink behind the show.

Country Club & Gated Homes

Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells properties with terraces and guard gates. Gate codes and the chef's name on the list, sorted in advance.

Parking, Space & Setup in Palm Springs

The desert has two hard rules and both are about heat. From May through September we strongly recommend an evening start — a teppanyaki grill at 105 degrees is miserable for everyone standing near it, and the same party at 8pm is genuinely lovely. Between October and April a lunch or afternoon booking on the patio is one of the best things about the desert. Second, shade and water for your guests matter more than anything we bring; the chef manages the grill heat regardless.

Vacation rentals dominate our Palm Springs bookings, and desert rentals have the strictest quiet-hours and event rules of anywhere we serve. Check your rental's policy on outdoor cooking and evening noise before booking us — an early-evening slot almost always wraps inside quiet hours. Gated communities need the chef on the list or a gate code sent ahead. A travel fee applies given the distance from our base and is shown upfront in your quote. We need about a 6x8 ft flat area and roughly 10 ft of overhead clearance.

Not sure your space works? Send a photo with your quote request and we will confirm the setup spot before your date.

The Palm Springs Hibachi Menu

Every guest picks two proteins, and everyone gets the full plate — garlic butter fried rice, grilled vegetables, house salad, and sauces. Guests can each choose differently; the chef cooks to order at your table.

Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free guests are served at the same per-person rate — just tell us when you book. Our standard soy sauce is not gluten free, so a gluten-free guest should have their own on hand and we'll cook their portion with it. We can't promise a nut- or sesame-free table: the sauces and gyoza are commercial products and both sauces contain egg, so tell us the allergy and we'll check the labels in use for your date. The Best Time of Year for a Party in Palm Springs

This is a hibachi party in your own yard, so the weather decides more than the calendar does. The numbers below are six years of daily observations for Palm Springs (2019–2024) — not a general Southern California average. Ten miles inland around here can mean fifteen degrees, so a July evening in Palm Springs is its own question.

Best months for an evening party

April through May and October through November

Best months for a lunch party

November through February

July in Palm Springs averages a high of 108°F, against 66°F in January. From June through September the afternoon is genuinely hot next to a teppanyaki grill, so we suggest starting at or after sunset in those months and saving lunch bookings for the cooler half of the year.

Rain is worth planning around in March, when about 13% of days see measurable precipitation. That is not a reason to avoid the month — it is a reason to have a plan: a 10'x10' pop-up tent over the chef's station, or seat your guests indoors and let the chef cook on the patio.

Evenings run longest in June, when the sun sets around 7:58pm. If you want the show finishing as the light goes — which is the version everyone photographs — start about ninety minutes before sunset for your month and work back from the table below.

Palm Springs is 86.6 miles from our base by road. Our first 50 miles are free, so the travel fee on a Palm Springs booking is about $37 — one dollar for each mile past the free 50, not a flat surcharge.

What We Actually Buy

Almost nobody in mobile hibachi will tell you the grade of what goes on the grill — you get “fresh ingredients” and a photo. Here is the actual spec for a Palm Springs party, because at $59.90 a head you should be able to check.

Beef

USDA Choice Angus top sirloin

Choice is the grade above Select. We buy Angus program beef rather than whatever is cheapest that week.

Shrimp

BAP-certified

Best Aquaculture Practices — an independent certification covering the farm, the hatchery, the feed and the processing plant.

Salmon

Atlantic salmon fillet, skinless

Portioned fillet, not trim or belly offcuts.

Chicken

Boneless, skinless breast

Hatched, raised and harvested in the USA. Breast meat only — no thigh substitution.

Lobster tail

Wild-caught Caribbean spiny lobster

Our premium upgrade. Wild-caught, not farmed.

Sauces

Terry Ho’s yum yum sauce and Japanese ginger dressing

The ones you already recognise from the restaurant. Both contain egg.

Allergies: Our standard soy sauce is not gluten free, so a gluten-free guest should have their own gluten-free soy and teriyaki on hand and we'll cook their portion with it. We can't promise a nut- or sesame-free table — the sauces and gyoza are commercial products, the gyoza contain sesame, and one sauce is made in a plant that also handles peanuts. Tell us the allergy when you book and we'll check the labels in use for your date.

Palm Springs Hibachi FAQ

Can you cook at our Palm Springs vacation rental?

Yes — vacation rentals are most of our desert bookings. We need a permitted outdoor space and the rental's OK for outdoor cooking events. Many Palm Springs rentals have quiet hours; our show wraps well within them when you book an early-evening slot.

What about summer desert heat?

Summer bookings run at sunset and after — the show starts as the temperature drops and the patio becomes perfect. Misters and shade for guests help; the chef handles the grill heat regardless.

Is there a travel fee to the desert?

Often yes, given the distance — our first 50 miles are free and the desert is past that, so expect $1 per mile beyond the 50. The exact amount is calculated from your address and shown upfront in your instant quote.

What does hibachi at home cost in Palm Springs?

$59.90 per adult, $29.90 per child 5–12, and a flat $5 for kids under 5, $599 event minimum — chef, grill, food, show, setup, and cleanup included, plus any disclosed travel fee.

How much space do you need in Palm Springs?

About a 6x8 ft flat area for the grill plus roughly 10 ft of overhead clearance, in open air — a patio, deck, driveway, or yard all work. Enclosed rooms and covered balconies do not. Send a photo when you book and we'll confirm the setup spot before your date.

Is this an indoor or outdoor party?

The cooking is outdoors; the eating does not have to be. A live teppanyaki grill throws real smoke and grease and will set off a smoke alarm indoors, so the grill always stays outside — on a patio, deck, driveway, yard, or roof terrace, with about 10 ft of overhead clearance. Your guests can absolutely sit and eat inside. Plenty of Palm Springs parties run exactly that way: the chef cooks on the patio and plates come indoors, which is what we'd suggest on a hot afternoon or a cold night.

Can we book a lunch or daytime slot?

Yes. Because the party is outdoors, the right answer depends on your city and the season — midday stays comfortable near the coast for most of the year, while inland and Valley cities are best at lunch roughly October through May and better at sunset in high summer. Daytime slots are usually easier to get than weekend evenings. Tell us your date and preferred time and we'll tell you honestly whether it works.

What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?

Cancel or reschedule at least 72 hours before your event and your $19.90 deposit is refunded in full. Inside 72 hours the deposit may become non-refundable. If rain is the problem, a 10'x10' pop-up tent over the chef's station usually saves the party — you provide the tent, we do not supply them — and guests can eat indoors while the chef cooks outside.
